Question: Is it worth going for an interview when I already know the salary offered is too low?
Dear Ellis,
I've been looking for work for about six months. I just got invited to interview for a job that pays 15% less than I was making. Is it worth even going for an interview when I already know the salary is too low?

Answer
Dear On the Search,
My usual rule is that you go on all interviews possible, especially when you're having some difficulty going on them - unless you're 95-100% sure that the job is wrong for you. Why not take the 5% chance? What's to lose? (This latter is becoming a favorite expression in job search.) The only time I think you shouldn't go on that 5% interview is when you're working full-time and taking time off is difficult. And you can always negotiate when you get the offer!
